OD = Right eye
OS = Left eye
Sphere = Magnification power
- Minus = Near sighted - de-magnification either for far distance or full time
- Plus = Far sighted - magnification – usually for up close or full time
Cylinder = Astigmatism correction
- Corrects focus and sharpness
Axis = Degree rotation of the cylinder correction
- Cylinder and axis are a packaged deal and always either both or neither
Add Power = Power added to the distance prescription to enable reading - found in progressive prescriptions
PD = Pupil Distance – distance between the center of your eyes - essential to making every pair of prescription lenses
